The remarkable rise of mobile technology and mobile gaming and increasingly powerful premium mobile devices has fuelled consumer demand for high-fidelity mobile gaming experiences worldwide. Like the Betway app for gamers, the presence of dedicated mobile apps paves the way for an even greater market. The “Next-Gen Mobile Games” research, co-authored by Newzoo and Arm, examines the rising global popularity of mobile games that require more from hardware and gamers. Whether it’s MMOs, MOBAs, 3D shooters, 3D 4X strategy games, or other genres commonly referred to as core games, the firms used the phrase “high-fidelity” to characterize products that “feature advanced graphics and/or complex mechanics and gameplay.” The research focuses primarily on three markets: China, North America, and Europe, and the high-fidelity segment’s rise in each since 2016. High-fidelity games accounted for 42 per cent of the income generated by China’s top 200 iOS games in 2016. Last year, that figure had risen to 70%. Although North America and Europe trail China in terms of high-fidelity gaming popularity, they are nevertheless advancing in the same direction. In North America and Europe, respectively, high-fidelity games contributed 6% and 7% of revenue from the top 200 grossing games on the App Store and Google Play in 2016. These figures had risen to 33% in North America and 37% in Europe the previous year. While several of the most popular high-fidelity games in China predate the 2016 research (Honor of Kings, Cross-Fire Mobile), more recent titles like PUBG Mobile, Call of Duty: Mobile, and Brawl Stars have made bigger contributions to the North American and European markets. (There are two major exceptions: Roblox from 2011 and Pokémon Go from 2016.) With several mobile apps leaning towards improving gaming, brands like Betway can only get better, as the new crop of players prefers the ‘on-the-go’ experience. “In mature mobile games markets like China, high-fidelity mobile games have already hit the mainstream,” Newzoo China market analyst Tianyi Gu said. “We believe that in the next couple of years, emerging markets and Western countries will play an increasingly important role in driving the growth of high-fidelity or next-gen mobile games. In particular, the West is likely to follow China in shifting tastes more toward mid-core and core games as the young mobile-first generation matures.” This paradigm is also likely to change when new technologies emerge, such as augmented reality and 5G. Advertising videos are projected to improve quality and engagement when 5G is deployed and quicker download rates. Playing games on Betway will be much easier and more fun. Hatch and Samsung, for example, debuted 5G cloud gaming in the United States in April 2019 with the Hatch for Samsung app. Customers could play famous games like Hitman GO, Monument Valley, and Arkanoid Rising instantaneously through streaming with Samsung’s first flagship 5G phone, the Galaxy S10 5G. As a result of the aforementioned considerations, the free-to-play price model is likely to drive future mobile gaming.
